Today when Alexander and Christopher got up from their nap, Robert (their very big brother) said, "Twins!" They both turned their heads and looked at him and said, "Hi!"
I guess they know that they are the twins!
The other day I had to change an extremely messy diaper, and I asked one of my daughters to bring me a Walmart bag to put it in. Mary gave it to Christopher and he brought it to me. I was properly thankful, saying "Danke" to him, and he replied "Bitte" (you're welcome) to me.
But that wasn't the end of it. Apparently it was a lot of fun, so he brought me another one. Then Alexander wanted to get in on the action! So both of them kept bringing me bags, and I kept saying, "Danke" and they kept saying, "Bitte" and they had a grand time!
I think I ended up with about 40 bags!
Alexander's crib was moved out of our bedroom and into the room where Christopher has been sleeping! They are adjusting to sleeping in the same room, and I am so happy to be able to go into my room without waking Alexander up anymore! Plus it will get them on the same schedule more, because Alexander was waking up much earlier than Christopher, so Christopher wasn't as tired at naptime. Exciting stuff!
One morning last week the twins ate an entire box of waffles by themselves for breakfast! That is four waffles each!
Christopher and Alexander had a wonderful birthday! The night before I made chocolate chip granola bars for breakfast, which Christopher loves, and Alexander doesn't turn them down either. They ate them all morning and played. While they had their naps, I went to teach, and I told my class that it was the twins' birthday and they were all excited.
I came back home and loaded everyone up except Robert to go to ballet. Robert stayed home and frosted the cakes. I took a lot of pictures of the twins and Ryan playing outside at the dance school, so I will post some when I get them back.
When we got home, we tried to get everything ready as quickly as possible. I don't remember what we had for dinner, but it was not anything that the twins especially like, because I didn't want to have peanut butter spread on bread for dinner! They will eat that all day long! They opened their presents (ok, well, I mainly opened them!) They loved all their presents!
From Mommy and Daddy: a cowboy figure and an Indian figure for each of them, and an elephant nesting doll for Alexander (since he's mein kleiner Elefant) and a parrot nesting doll for Christopher (since he's mein kleiner Papagei).
From Ryan: foam swords and balloons - Ryan was very definite that he wanted to get Alexander a blue balloon and Christopher an orange balloon, so we got a blue star and a Sesame Street birthday balloon with an orange background.
From Gabrielle and Mary: bubbles to blow, an action figure for Alexander, a motorcycle for Christopher, and some really strange looking creature
From Mom-Mom and Grandpa: the blue IKEA children's table and chairs (which are also Ryan's) and finger puppets which they like to put on their fingers and chase each other around with, and also an outfit for each of them
From Aunt Karen: a rainbow book and a sun book that are very cute
From Grandma: money for anything they need, which will probably be socks and shoes and possibly a jacket
From Aunt Dolly: money for a treat
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful presents!
Since we ran out of film at this point, and I wanted pictures of them with their cakes, we paused the festivities and I went to one gas station store and then the other and bought a single-use camera. Then we sang happy birthday and gave them their cakes. Alexander's was chocolate with vanilla frosting and Christopher's was yellow with chocolate frosting. The girls decorated them and they had their number 2 candles. They actually did try to blow out the candles, which impressed me. Then they had cake and ice cream. At one point while they were eating, they kissed each other and it was so sweet! I had never seen them do that before! They did it once more but I couldn't get a picture of it.
Then they got cleaned up and put to bed. The end of very special day!
Alexander and Christopher invented a game yesterday. It involved grabbing your collar with your teeth, and then chasing your twin around the house trying to pull his collar out of his teeth while not allowing him to pull yours out. Two two-year-old on the same wavelength is a scary thing!
Of course, they are two every day!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXANDER AND CHRISTOPHER!!
The babies usually wave and say "Bye!" when people leave now. About half the time they do it when I leave, the other half of the time, one or both of them are crying. But yesterday they did something really cute. One was in the kitchen and the other walking out of the kitchen, and they both were looking at each other and waving and saying, "Bye! Bye!" It was funny!
Yesterday the twins were both nursing, but Christopher finished first and climbed down. He went off and played, then came back and climbed up on my lap. Why? Solely to kiss Alexander on the top of his head! That is the first time I have ever seen either of them give the other a kiss! He then kissed him several more times, and Alexander stopped nursing so they could play together. Awwww....
Then today, they were playing a game where they walked kneeling on their knees towards each other and then grappled, trying to knock the other down. First Christopher got knocked down, then Alexander. But it was all just a game and they were laughing and giggling and having a ball!
Big brother Ryan has been into Veggie Tales lately, and now Alexander and Christopher can both sing along to the Veggie Tales theme song! It's so cute and nice to hear them trying to speak!
